UNDP in Pakistan in Pak Directory

UNDP is the UNs global development network, advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life. We are on the ground in 166 countries, working with them on their own solutions to global and national development challenges. As they develop local capacity, they draw on the people of UNDP and our wide range of partners. At the United Nations Millennium Summit in September 2000, world leaders pledged to achieve the eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) , including the overarching goal of cutting poverty in half by 2015. UNDPs work in Pakistan is now very much focused on supporting national efforts towards achieving the MDGs UNDP and the rest of the UN Country Team are currently assisting the Government in reviewing the eight Goals, adapting the targets and indicators to the country, and preparing the first MDG Report, which will appear later this year, to benchmark progress, raise awareness, and help focus national debate on specific development priorities. Civil societys participation in the MDG reporting process will be facilitated in different ways. One example is UNDPs effort to sensitize the elected cadre on the MDGs, in connection with training and capacity building programmes for 120,000 district councilors, including 40,000 women.
